You could say that Evan grew up on the river, but you’d be using the wrong tense. Evan is still growing up on the river. His dad worked for us back in the ‘80s and Evan was raised within sight and sound of the South Fork of the American. He started rafting before he started walking and he started guiding before he started driving. Since then he has chosen an undergraduate degree (Hydrological Sciences), a graduate school (Humboldt State), a Master’s Degree (Water Resources Engineering), and two hobbies (kayaking and
fly-fishing) based on their capacity to afford him more time on the water. Together, those choices enabled him to spend over 250 days in, on, near, around or under the river last year. Not a bad way to be growing up.
