Guide

All ARTA guides work hard. Cate works harder.

When Cate was about to graduate from High School, she had two options: walk at her high school graduation or go to guide school. Her Choice? So chose to wear her cap and gown while rafting down the Klamath River. We wholeheartedly agree with her choice. Growing up in Maryland, she discovered rafting as a kid, and returned to ARTA as a guide. When she is not on the river, she can be found tap dancing, conducting environmental research around the globe, or capturing life’s moments in .5 selfies. Cate has an infectious smile that brings a ray of sunshine to any trip she is on. She is an all-around wonderful guide, but is especially known for her skill in grilling steaks.

More About
Cate

Frederick, MD -- cool! lots of art and history and old brick buildings and rolling hills and farms and beautiful sunsets.
Buckskin Bill's on the Main Salmon, both for the root beer floats and the pickled animals in jars. Checks all the boxes!
"The legs feed the wolf" (Miracle, 1980 US hockey team)
I read the Harry Potter series 8 times growing up (until my mom took the books away from me) so I think it has to qualify as one of my favorites.
I went on my first rafting trip on the Middle Fork at the age of 12, and was immediately inspired by the guides on my trip. I wrote my college essay about my desire to guide/become that role model for other folks, skipped my high school graduation to go to guide school, and the rest is history!
Always put your coffee cup out the night before so you don't have to look for it in the morning!
